Some high individual scores stood out for the Joel Barlow High gymnastics team in its meet at Trumbull last week.
In most of the events the Falcons had at least one scorer hit the eight-point mark or better on Wednesday, Jan. 30. They could have used a few more competitors in a couple as they totaled 101.4 points, not enough to catch the hosts with 129.85 at Trumbull High.
Barlow had just four gymnasts compete on the vault and all earned at least eight points. Scores were also quite close, spanning just a quarter of a point
Julianne DiBellis led the way with an 8.45, 0.05 point ahead of Kylie Rizzo with an 8.4. She was a tenth of a point ahead of Krista Ganim’s 8.3 and Lucy Whitehouse in turn followed with an 8.2.
Barlow had just two compete on the uneven bars. Just missing the seven-point mark, DeBellis had a 6.9. Rizzo also competed and scored a 6.2.
An 8.4 by Rizzo on the balance beam was the highest score in that event for the meet. Ganim also the eight-point mark with an 8.0 on the nose.
Alex Jones also competed for Barlow and scored a 7.1 Whitehouse had a 5.3.
All three of Barlow’s gymnasts in the floor competition topped 8.5 apiece. Two tied for second overall in the meet.
Whitehouse and DiBellis each earned scored of 8.8. Rizzo followed with an 8.55.
The Falcons next compete in the South-West Conference finals today (Thursday) at New Milford High at 5 p.m.
