The Easton Republican Town Committee has appointed Vincent Caprio as Republican Registrar of Voters to replace Krista Kot, who was sworn in as interim tax collector on July 8. (See related story.)

Prior to Caprio actually assuming the role, some steps have to be taken, including submission of a letter of resignation by Kot and filing the necessary documents with the Secretary of the State’s office.

“He’s been active in town government and serves on the Planning and Zoning Commission,” Easton Republican Town Committee Chairman James Riling said. “I think he will do a very good job in the role.”

Caprio graduated from Villanova University in 1979 with a bachelor of science degree in accounting and earned a master’s of business administration degree from Northeastern in 1987.

He serves on the board of trustees for the Easton Community Center and the Easton Learning Foundation and as an alternate on the Planning and Zoning Commission. He and his wife and daughter have been Easton residents for 18 years.

Caprio is the executive director of the NanoBusiness Commercialization Association, and in November 2008, he co-founded the Water Innovations Alliance. He is an advocate for government funding of emerging technologies at both the state and federal levels and has testified before the state legislatures of New York and Connecticut, and has participated in NanoBusiness’ Washington, D.C. roundtables.

“It’s a done deal for all intents and purposes,” Riling said. “It’s a domino effect and learning curves for all three. The good thing is that the people vacating the positions will still be around.”

Kot replaced Christine Calvert, Easton’s first director of finance, who was selected out of 60 candidates for the position. Calvert replaces Controller Grace Stanczyk, who retires this month.

Nathalie Taranto, deputy Republican Registrar, declined to take the registrar’s position, which meant that it was subject to appointment by the town committee.
