Easton Firefighters rescue deer from frozen pond

The quick actions of an Easton resident and Easton Fire Department volunteers saved a deer’s life when the animal was rescued from a frozen pond. Around 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9, a resident of Silver Hill was walking her dog near a pond in her backyard and heard a commotion in the water, according to Steve Waugh, chief of the Easton Volunteer Fire Department. The resident noticed a deer had broken through the ice in the center of the pond, and was trapped in the water, Waugh said. Teens cook breakfast to celebrate Three Kings Day

While the weather may have been freezing outside, several dozen Redding teenagers — dressed in gold crowns and colorful robes — worked up a sweat as they cooked and served a hot breakfast to more than 150 parishioners at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Redding. The event took place on Sunday, Jan. 7, to recognize Three Kings Day, or the Feast of the Epiphany, which was on Jan. 6. The breakfast cost $6 and consisted of pancakes, sausage, coffee, tea, milk, orange juice, and hot chocolate. Fire in freezer sets garage ablaze

An alarm alerted emergency responders to a fire Monday, Jan. 8. The Easton Police 911 Center was alerted to an automatic alarm around 5 p.m. Monday. Police arrived to find flames coming from an attached garage at 12 Wells Hill Road, according to Easton Police Sgt. Jonathan Arnold. The fire appeared to have started behind a refrigerator located in the garage, but the cause of the fire is under the investigation of the Easton Fire Marshal’s Office.
