Little League: Weston gives back

The Weston 12U Little League team giving back as part of their success this summer.  For every home run the team hits, the team families will be donating a minimum of $100 to the A.J. Baseball: Young, improving players raise their game

Up and coming Cal Ripken baseball players from Easton participated in the 8U state tournament, at Newtown’s Glander Field in early July. Easton, after falling to New Canaan in its first game, defeated Bridgeport 8-6 the next day, then fell 6-4 to Newtown on day three, ending things in the double elimination bracket. Regardless of the outcome, for all of the teams in this tourney it presented a great opportunity for young baseball enthusiasts to raise their level of play. Baseball: Weston 12U all-stars advance to district finals

The Weston Little League 12U baseball all-star team took another step to making history as it advanced to the Connecticut District 1 championship series with an 8-5 win over Stamford National in the winners’ bracket final on Monday night in Wilton. Weston has never won the district title in the Williamsport tournament, but can do so with a win on Friday night at Stamford Springdale Field (7:30), or if needed, on Saturday night at 7.  Three other teams remain alive in the tourney. The Weston 12U all-star baseball team has advanced to the winners’ bracket final of the Connecticut Little League District 1 tournament, after its third one-run win in six days on Friday. Weston, which has never won the district title, faces Stamford National on Monday, with the winning advancing to the district finals. On Friday night, Weston got its second straight great pitching performance in a 3-2 win over Stamford American at Scalzi Field in Stamford. American Legion baseball: Weinbrum continues to impress for Wilton Post 86

Weston’s Andrew Weinbrum continued his incredible stretch of pitching last week in the Wilton Post 86 American League Senior team’s 2-1 win at Ridgefield. Weinbrum, a rising senior at Weston High School, improved his season record to 5-0 with his fifth complete-game effort. He has allowed no earned runs over 36 and one-third innings of work this season, with four shutouts — including a no-hitter. He also has one save. Play Ball for All clinic in Weston hosts 45 kids

Weston’s Play Ball For All hosted a free fun-and-fundamentals youth baseball clinic and barbeque on Saturday, June 16, at Morehouse Field in Weston. The event welcomed more than 40 young program participants ages 8-13 from the Child Guidance Center of Mid-Fairfield County, based in Norwalk. The clinic was in partnership with The Factory training center of Norwalk and ASF Sports of Westport. Baseball: Easton 12’s win Al Leonard Tournament

After losing its first game of the 25th Al Leonard Jimmy Fund Tournament in Bethel, the Easton Cal Ripken 12U district baseball team won five games in a row, including beating New Canaan twice, to take the tournament championship on Tuesday. Easton won the final game on a dramatic walk-off home run by Christian Nilsen in bottom of the sixth inning to win 2-1. American Legion Baseball: Post 86 Juniors notch first wins

After an 0-8 start, the Wilton American Legion Post 86 Junior squad reeled off four wins in a row last week, before two tough losses to Trumbull this past weekend. Post 86 (4-10) won for the fourth time in five days on Saturday, defeating Trumbull 3-2 in the first game of a doubleheader. Erik Lebek got the win, allowing seven hits and two runs over six and two-third innings, with three walks and three strikeouts. Bara, Baisley win Weston Lacrosse Club Merit Award

In 2010, the Weston Lacrosse Club established the Weston High School Merit Award in order to honor one senior class member from each of the Weston High School boys and girls lacrosse teams each season.
