Easton March for Change representatives gathered Jan. 31 at the Easton Community Center for a letter-writing event. Preprinted templates, pens, green envelopes, stamps, and addresses of state legislators were on hand.

The theme of the hand-written letters was clear to the two dozen moms, dads and children who participated: Demand safer gun legislation in Connecticut.

Marchforchange.org has been organizing bus transportation around the state to go to Hartford on Feb. 14, where a peaceful rally will take place at the state Capitol building. However at Thursday’s event, Nico Katz-Pickerstein, the Easton coordinator for bus transportation from Easton to Hartford, discussed with fellow representatives Cathy Dunsby, Melissa Mack, Caithlin De Marrais and Terry Parese-Gardone, the fact that Easton did not have a full bus.

Without a full bus, Easton would not have a bus available for the rally. Disheartened but choosing to remain hopeful, everyone went home for the evening. But the next day, a local grandmother said she would donate the remaining funds to hire the bus for the rally.

The donor wishes to remain anonymous but stated, “I donate to worthy causes where the recipients of the donation are not known or the use of the money isn’t specific.”

This mother of three — grandmother of four — believes helping the coalition formed by marchforchange.org gives her, and moms and grandmothers around the world, a bit of hope for the future of all of our children.

When opportunities like this donation occur, it is proof we are on the right track, and our efforts will make a difference; our voices will be heard about safer gun laws.
