There has never been a better time to invest in solar. You may have heard about Solarize Easton-Redding-Trumbull, which is a state-sponsored program that makes solar more affordable for homeowners by aggregating installations in our three communities with a pre-selected installer, who is discounting solar in exchange for our community’s outreach and education efforts.
We know solar is good for the environment, but is solar a good investment for our pocketbooks?
To find out for myself, I recently had my house evaluated for solar panels. Sunlight Solar, our pre-selected installer, sent a representative to my house for a free site assessment, including taking measurements of my home’s orientation, shading and exposure to the sun. Their findings revealed that I have a very good house for solar, but that since I researched solar about eight years ago, due to the extra discounts and subsidies, (which will be decreasing soon) the costs went down substantially, making my break-even point about seven years, rather than 10 years. They are also offering zero down financing with reasonable interest rates which really make this decision a “no-brainer.”
Considering that Connecticut may be among the most expensive states in the nation for electricity, and that the rates have been increasing on the average of about 3% per year, this decision only gets better and better over time. Therefore, my husband and I will be taking advantage of the Solarize pricing and install solar panels through Solarize Easton on Dec. 7.
If you would like to learn more, I hope you will drop by my house at 30 Wimbledon Lane between noon and 3 p.m. It’s a great time to ask Sunlight Solar questions about your own home or to schedule your own home evaluation.
Maybe you are just curious, or maybe you want to feel good about going green. Maybe you are like me and saving thousands of dollars in the coming years sounds appealing. The only way to find out if solar is right for you is to learn more about Solarize. Sunlight Solar’s site visit is free, with no obligation to purchase.
